English For Tourism

English for Tourism is an English language course for people who work, or plan to work in the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries. The course aims to increase confidence in customer service delivery through focusing on all aspects of communication in the service and tourism industries such as telephoning, taking orders, taking bookings, dealing with complaints, reception duties etc.. The course will also focus on writing skills including, writing up menus, answering emails, business letters, and memos. An essential element of the course will be practical placements in local tourist orientated businesses. Connemara is an essential destination for the majority of tourists visiting Ireland and as such has a vibrant and well established tourism industry. Students will study in classrooms with a maximum of 6 other students in the morning and take up local work placements in the afternoons and evenings. 

The Location of the Connemara School of Language and Cultural Studies is ideal for tourism students. The school at Heatherhill, Letterfrack is a beautiful place to study and learn. Students may also have some lessons at the near-by G.M.I.T campus which is a third level college only three minutes walk from Heatherhill. As one of Ireland's premier tourist destinations Connemara has a innovative, well established tourist industry. There are a whole range of tourism and hospitality businesses in Letterfrack and its' environs including :visitor attractions, hotels, bars, restaurants, craft shops, tour operators and adventure centres , such as;  Kylemore Abbey historic building and gardens, Killary Adventure centre, Renvyle House Hotel, Avoca Craft shop, and Connemara National Park. Students can specify their area of interest in the tourism industries and every effort will be made to match eah students to a suitable tourism business.

Accommodation can be provided on the Heatherhill campus of the Connemara School of Language and Cultural Studies. The 8 large six bedroomed houses at Heatherhill provide high quality self-catering accommodation for students with lots of shared living space and large individual bedrooms. Students can also opt for host family or hotel accommodation.

Additional activities are also available to Tourism students and range from adventure activities such as surfing, climbing, gorge walking, mountain biking, scuba diving etc.. to more leisurely activities such as golf, fishing , cooking and painting. Artistic and cultural pursuits are also readily available for students and range from Irish dancing, singing, Irish music, art exhibitions, theatre and cultural events. 

Airport transfers and additional transportation can be arranged for students as requested.
